Foyer space: Alex Pye – The Gift 

 

Alex Pye is an interdisciplinary artist based in Cumnock, a small farming community in central NSW. She is interested in the idea of ‘Wilderness’ as a part of the ‘Western’ grand narrative that teaches us that we are separate and unique from nature, that the wilderness is an exotic, mysterious and dangerous place. Through her performance and video work filmed on location in central and far western NSW, Alex’s practice seeks to investigate and question how western meta-narratives of the notion of ‘Wilderness’ shape the Australian experience of it.
