Foyer Space: James Horne – Gymnoschoenus
I combine imagery from satellite, camera and Electron microscope to represent Tasmanian buttongrass environments. Uncertainty of object identity and scale is balanced by formal certainty that the subjects are environmentally related through grouping together of the project images. In the contemplative space that this creates, environments can be considered on the basis of formal, aesthetic and elemental criteria. Evidence of the unknown is placed within the boundaries of the known thereby enriching our experience of our surroundings. Our relationship to the environment can be re-analysed with knowledge of the minutiae, Human-scale elements and global context. New knowledge fosters re-engagement.
